Molecular simulation of water vapor outgassing from silica nanopores

چکیده
The outgassing problem is solved numerically by molecular dynamics. A slit-shaped nanopore consisting of cavity and channel is built with an implicit tabulated wall potential that describes the water-silicon/silica interaction. A flexible three-point water model is used for the simulation. The effects of varying the system temperature, outlet pressure, geometry, and materials of the nanopore on the outgassing rate are investigated. The results show that the temperature plays an important role in the outgassing rate, while the effect of the outlet pressure is negligible as long as it is in the high to medium vacuum range. The geometry of the channel also has an influence on the outgassing rate, but not as much as the surface material. Three different types of silica materials are tested: silicon, silica-cristobalite (hydrophilic material), and silica-quartz (super hydrophilic material). The fastest outgassing rate is found for a silicon nanopore. It is also found that a thin water film is formed on the surface of the silica-quartz nanopore. This material shows hardly any outgassing of water.

Evaluation of Vapor Deposition Techniques for Membrane Pore Size Modification
The suitability of three vapor deposition techniques for pore size modification was evaluated using polycarbonate track etched membranes as model supports. A feature scale model was employed to predict the pore geometry after modification and the resulting pure water flux. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) and pulsed plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), naturally, form asymmetric na...

Silica nanopores are the focus of significant scientific interest due to their potential in a wide variety of applications including desalination membranes. In this paper, the results of extensive all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of the electro-osmotic flow of 0.5 M monovalent (NaCl) and divalent (CaCl(2)) ionic solutions through cylindrical charged silica nanopores are presented. The si...
متن کاملCapillary rise of water in hydrophilic nanopores.
We report on the capillary rise of water in three-dimensional networks of hydrophilic silica pores with 3.5 nm and 5 nm mean radii, respectively (porous Vycor monoliths). We find classical square root of time Lucas-Washburn laws for the imbibition dynamics over the entire capillary rise times of up to 16 h investigated. Provided we assume two preadsorbed strongly bound layers of water molecules...

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Spontaneous Imbibition in Nanopores and Recovery of Asphaltenic Crude Oils Using Surfactants for EOR Applications — We present Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations of the imbibition process in nanopores in case of two different mechanisms of the wettability modification. We compare the imbibition of an aqueous surfactant solution into an oil-wet pore driven by su...
متن کاملMolecular simulation of nitrogen adsorption in nanoporous silica.
This article reports on a molecular simulation study of nitrogen adsorption and condensation at 77 K in atomistic silica cylindrical nanopores (MCM-41). Two models are considered for the nitrogen molecule and its interaction with the silica substrate. In the "pea" model, the nitrogen molecule is described as a single Lennard-Jones sphere and only Lennard-Jones interactions between the nitrogen ...
